Gary-based general contractor Superior Construction Co. Inc. has received awards from statewide and national associations for its achievements in workplace safety.

Superior Construction, along with BP Products North America and the Northwestern Indiana Building and Construction Trades Council, received the National Maintenance Agreement Policy Committee Gold Star Award at the Zero Injury Safety Awards. The entities received the award on Oct. 25 in Washington, D.C.

The Indiana Construction Association also gave Superior Construction two awards at its Safety Program Awards Presentation in Indianapolis last month. Superior Construction received the Gold Summit Safety Award and the highest annual award for safety achievement, the Pinnacle Safety Award.

The Zero Incidents Safety Award honors union contractors, labor representatives, and owner-clients who create injury-free jobsites.

For its 2011 industrial maintenance work at the BP Whiting Refinery, Superior Construction employees logged more than 1.78 million consecutive work hours without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recorded incident.

The Indiana Construction Association Safety Program Awards recognizes general contractors, prime contractors, construction managers and subcontractors for excellence in employee and jobsite safety.
