Celebrated for their business acumen and community involvement, four local business leaders will be inducted into the Northwest Indiana BusINess and Industry Hall of Fame later this month.
The 2013 Hall of Fame class features Tom Collins Sr., CEO of Luke Oil in Hobart; Danita Johnson Hughes, president and CEO of Edgewater Systems of Balanced Living in Gary; Tom Sourlis, chairman and founder of Mortar Net USA Ltd in Burns Harbor; and Stephen Teibel, co-owner of Teibel’s Restaurant in Schererville.
Former Sen. Richard Lugar will be the keynote speaker and will be honored with a lifetime achievement award. Gov. Mike Pence also is expected to speak.
The annual induction program, now in its sixth year, lauds individuals who have made a substantial contribution to business and industry in the region and who have demonstrated their involvement in the community. The Times Media Co. and its BusINess magazine sponsor the Hall of Fame.
"When we created this event, I was new to the area and so I learned a great deal about NWI that I didn’t know. Now that I have been here a while I personally know most all of the recipients, but it still doesn’t change the fact that I learn a lot about them that I didn’t know," said Times Media Co. Publisher Bill Masterson Jr. "I am in amazement of what they have accomplished. Congrats to all."
The induction ceremony luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. March 22 at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. Tickets cost $30 or $500 for a corporate sponsorship.

The 2012 inductees were Milford Christenson, president of Christenson Chevrolet in Highland; Wil Davis, owner/operator of the Gary Jet Center; Tom Gryzbek, president of Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond and Dyer; Steve Pangere, president and CEO of The Pangere Corp. and Culver Roofing Inc., both in Gary; and Linda Woloshansky, president and CEO of The Center of Workforce Innovations in Valparaiso.
