MERRILLVILLE | TradeWinds Services on Tuesday announced plans to acquire a new headquarters facility in Hobart, with a move scheduled for later this year.

The new facility will allow TradeWinds to serve more Lake County children and adults with in need of support in the areas of employment services, independent life skills and rehabilitation, according to a news release.

TradeWinds is a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities reach their full potential.

The nonprofit will save on costs by relocating rather than remodeling, as found through an in–depth evaluation of its existing facility.

"As we evaluated the future of TradeWinds, the Board was faced with a tough decision – either invest up to $5 million to remodel our existing facility or look for alternatives," said Jon Gold, CEO of Tradewinds.

Over the next few months, the Hobart facility, located at 3198 E. 83rd Place, will undergo remodeling and retro–fitting to meet requirements of special needs individuals, as well as state compliance standards.
