The United Steelworkers said Thursday that its members working at ArcelorMittal USA facilities have ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement.
The Pittsburgh-based union said 94 percent of workers approved the deal. Local union delegates counted the votes Thursday.
In a news release, United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard praised the union's negotiating committee for working toward a fair agreement "despite the company’s determined efforts to force major economic and contract language concessions until the very end."
The agreement covers about 14,000 workers including those at facilities in Burns Harbor, East Chicago, Gary, New Carlisle and Riverdale.
The union's bargaining committee and the company reached a tentative agreement Sept. 8. The previous agreement expired Sept. 1.
