NiSource Inc., of Merrillville, is among 140 companies worldwide named this year to the Ethisphere Institute's "World's Most Ethical Companies" list.
In making its picks for the list, the Ethisphere Institute reviewed each company's code of ethics, litigation and infraction histories, sustainable business practices and activities designed to improve corporate citizenship, according to the institute.
"Receiving this important designation yet again underscores our commitment to doing the right thing each and every day as we work to build North America's premier regulated energy company," said NiSource President and CEO Robert Skaggs Jr.
More companies than ever applied this year to be on the Ethisphere Institute's most ethical companies list, and the foundation continues to observe more companies creating new initiatives to expand their ethics programs, said Ethisphere Institute Executive Director Alex Brigham.
NiSource is the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in Northwest Indiana and is the owner of NIPSCO, which serves 457,000 electric and 786,000 natural gas customers in northern Indiana. NiSource also owns utilities in six other states as well as a gas transmission business serving 16 states.
