SCHERERVILLE | A furniture refinishing shop has scheduled a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at 358A U.S. 30.

Owners Kathleen Cusson and Kathleen O'Neill describe Sandpaper as "an occasional shop" that will be open only two weekends a month.

They said the restricted hours give them time to travel through the Midwest to find, create and display new treasures. Each time they open the shop, they will offer new items.

The owners said they have been refinishing furniture for friends and family for the past three years. Through word of mouth and social media, their passion turned into a growing business, they said.

"At Sandpaper, expect to find painted furniture, vintage goods and handmade items," they said. "Sandpaper will also have one-of-a-kind and inspirational artwork and jewelry from artists throughout the United States."

The store also offers custom painting of customers' furniture.
