Putting your best foot forward comes in pairs, as the Chicago Auto Show displays the 2013 Cadillac ATS sedan and 2013 Ram 1500 pickup as this year’s winners of the North American Car and Truck of the Year.

A jury of 49 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada considered every new car released in the past year and selected the all-new 2013 Cadillac as North American Car of the Year. The announcement came last month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Winning vehicles are chosen for their innovation, handling, performance, safety, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.

“A car like ATS is the result of incredible commitment and focus,” said Bob Ferguson, GM vice president, global Cadillac. “That’s the only method for creating a great performing luxury car.”

The 2013 Cadillac ATS is a compact sport sedan offered in rear– and all-wheel drive with choice of powerful fuel-efficient four- and six-cylinder engines.

Cadillac ATS recently received a 5-Star overall crash test rating in the New Car Assessment Program run by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Crosstown rival Chrysler raises the benchmark with the new Ram 1500 truck taking top honors as North American Truck of the Year. Ram was first to win the prestigious award in 1994.

Ram 1500 offers best-in-class fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon courtesy of the brand’s Pentastar V6 engine.

The legendary HEMI 5.7-liter V8 also is available featuring cylinder deactivation that allows the truck to run on four-cylinder power when traveling unladen on flat pavement.

The 2013 Ram 1500 boasts a first-in-class eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start system, thermal management system, grille shutters and active air suspension.

“Ram’s use of coil springs rather than leaf springs makes for a much better ride,” says Tom Bialata, truck specialist for Grieger’s Motor Sales in Valparaiso. “It also has an on board computer that has an App store in the center console.”

With best-in-class ride and handling and first-in-segment technologies, the 2013 Ram 1500 delivers unmatched content, performance and capability to the light truck buyer visiting the Ram display during this year's Chicago Auto Show.
