For 2013, Ford is the lead horse in a race to deliver best-in-class towing capacity and payload. At 500 pounds more than its nearest competitor, the 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks deliver a segment leading 18,500 pounds towing capability.
Payload also is increased to an imposing 7,260 pounds – making a powerful statement that Ford Motor Co. is serious about upping the ante in the Super Duty segment.
Pulling or hauling heavy cargo demands a brake system that inspires driver confidence to manage the load.
Ford addresses this challenge by augmenting the towing and hauling improvements with a brake system that delivers better performance and feel by increasing the front and rear brake rotor swept area, which helps with heat dispersion.
The brake feature is particularly beneficial on long downhill grades.
Ford also improves the brake pads and brake boosters to enhance brake feel. Increasing stopping power and inspiring driver confidence is key to the brake system’s development.
Optional adjustable pedals allow drivers greater flexibility to zero in on the perfect seating position in the saddle.
Ford introduces the Platinum trim level for its 2013 Super Duty line offering consumers an upscale look and feel both in the cab and on the exterior.
Outside, the Platinum series is fitted with a stand-out mesh grille for a unique Platinum look. Ford is optimistic consumers will appreciate an upscale trim level in this segment and anticipates a brisk adoption rate to the Platinum series sales.
Premium wood grain inserts line the interior as well as perforated leather seats, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual USB ports, audio-video connections and SD card slot.
Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch, navigation and rear view camera also is new for 2013 Super Duty line creating a truck-specific version of SYNC with MyFord Touch.
The truck adaptation has tactile button controls and larger rotating knobs making them easy to operate while wearing work gloves.
“People buying Ford Super Duty trucks are usually in the trades needing a capable truck for construction and to tow heavy equipment trailers or fifth-wheels,” says Gary Moss, senior sales consultant for Paul Heuring Ford in Hobart. “Their truck is an extension of their tool box.”
According to Moss, most Super Duty buyers opt for the Crew Cab Lariat or King Ranch 6.7-liter diesel models to carry co-workers or their family.
Safety is an important focus area for all Ford vehicles – Super Duty trucks among them. Super Duties are built to haul heavy loads under a wide range of road and weather conditions and come loaded with a number of safety elements.
It starts with a class-leading array of air bags, including standard front passenger and driver, side seat airbags, and Safety Canopy curtains with roll sensor.
Other safety features include a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Trailer Sway Control and a feature called SOS Post-Crash Alert System that works in conjunction with the SYNC system to send a report to emergency responders to be alerted and dispatched to a site in the event the truck has been in a crash.

The 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty begins at $29,385 for the 2013 Ford F-250 followed by the F-350 for $30,285. The F-450 hauls the bottom line to $50,360.
