The location of Porter Regional Hospital in Liberty Township has spurred development interest in other businesses in the area, said Valparaiso economic development official Rex Richards.
Richards said the project, which he said was the second largest in Porter County's history, has provided important construction jobs over the last three years and attention to a critical corridor.
He said the impetus behind the developments was city government's ability to target infrastructure improvements. These improves are then able to general interest in commercial development and housing.
Richards said in the next six months, officials could also make announcements of big box stores locating in Valparaiso.
