Manufacturing activity in the United States is following a similarly volatile pattern as it continues to recover from the impact of the Great Recession.
Berlin Metals President Roy Berlin said manufacturing activity has improved at his business in January, and he hopes it follows the same recent pattern of showing year-over-year improvements.
European countries suffering from an economic recession, a slowdown of economic activity in China and uncertainty about the U.S. economy all are helping to stall efforts to develop domestic manufacturing capacity, Berlin said.
Berlin said the strength in the automotive market, energy exploration and agriculture have been strong in recent years. Nonresidential construction remains a challenge for businesses providing products to those customers, he said.
