ELKHART LAKE, WISC. — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles awakens the modern day Muscle Car segment with debut of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
The Dodge Demon nameplate first appeared in 1971 with a 340 cubic inch V-8 engine that generated 290 horsepower for $2,721.
Today, the Demon has been resurrected in new skin with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 that builds 808-hp and 717 pound-feet of torque at the cost of $84,995, including a $1700 gas guzzler tax.
An 8-speed automatic transmission with car exclusive factory production TransBrake manages the powerplant.
An available Demon Crate, valued at $6,140, cost buyers only one U.S. dollar for factory performance upgrades that raise the 2018 Demon output to 840-hp and 770 lb.-ft. of torque to become the highest horsepower V-8 production car engine ever built.
A "Crated" Demon is intended for drag-strip use and comes with two narrow, front-running drag wheels to eclipse a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 miles per hour.
Dodge lightens Demon’s weight by deleting the front passenger seat, rear bench seat and trunk carpet. Only a driver seat is provided.
All passenger seats and trunk floor covering are offered to buyers for $1 each.
Pricey options include leather upholstery, premium audio system, sunroof, satin black graphics package and black painted satin hood.
Production of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be limited to 3,000 U.S. units and comes with a factory warranty available this fall.
