General Motors’ Cadillac Division hauls more luxury to their sedan lineup with the arrival of the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon.
Cadillac has taken over 100-years to bring a station wagon to market— a model that for decades reigned king of family transportation across American roadways.
The CTS ‘Sport’ Wagon joins the popular CTS sedan and CTS-V performance model in the Cadillac queue. The automaker plans to expand the CTS product line this spring with the addition of the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe.
A glance into Cadillac’s crystal ball reveals a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe concept will be shown at the Detroit Auto Show next week. It is clear—Cadillac sees a bright future focused on a different group of consumers.
Today, Cadillac crosses the line to a new audience with the average age of the Cadillac buyer reduced by 20 years, placing the marque into the hands and driveways of younger families eager to drive a luxury brand without the up-scale price.
Credit CTS’s chiseled styling, premium materials and quality fit and finish as the catalyst for its vitality.
The new-wave CTS Sport Wagon offers the same design and technical features as the rear-wheel drive CTS sedan but with twice the cargo capacity of 25 cu-ft. behind the back seat.
Need more room? Folding the 60/40-split second row flat expands the load volume to 58 cu-ft. A special cargo management system helps contain unruly content in the storage well with cleats that fit into a recessed floor rail.
Cadillac’s Sport Wagon includes a 3.0 liter V-6 for 270-hp or optional 3.6 liter with 304-hp. managed by a six-speed automatic transmission. Both powertrains are available with all-wheel drive (AWD).
Last week, I tested the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Premium edition equipped with a 3.6L engine and AWD. Its arrival was followed by the snow storm that clipped our region and became a real-world proving ground to examine the newcomer’s capability.
The Sport Wagon’s standard stability control and all-speed traction control teams with the AWD system to flawlessly champion winter driving conditions. Straight line acceleration is exceptional with outstanding cornering and braking ability.
CTS Sport Wagon’s optional power liftgate features positions that can be set to ‘maximum’ or ‘three-quarter’ opening height for easy reach by all who raise their hand to load the cargo bay.
Inside, instrument panel and center stack button and switch placement is ergonomically ideal. Front and rear seat legroom is roomy.
Power adjusted heated and cooled leather front seats, power tilt/telescopic steering wheel and a pop-up navigation screen with rear-view camera display are other popular features.
The 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon carries the spectrum of cost from $39,830 for the base model to the top-of-the-line Premium Collection that hauls a bottom line to $51,720.
