CEDAR LAKE—Whether you are the biggest car enthusiast, or you just like to be outdoors, Cedar Lake has something for you this weekend. On Sunday July 28, the Cedar Lake Fire Department will hold their 10th annual car show. The event starts at 7 a.m. and will end at approximately 3 p.m. at the Cedar Lake Town Complex, 7408 Constitution Ave. Cedar Lake Summerfest is also held at the Cedar Lake Town Complex every summer, which is next door to Lighthouse restaurant.

The Cedar Lake Fire Department invites the public to join them for a day of fun and to view some awesome unique vehicles. Last year’s event featured more than 160 cars in the showcase.

Sunday will include dozens of door prize giveaways, held every half hour, followed by the car show’s inaugural beanbag tournament. Fire Department President Bill Missal hopes it will be “a really big hit.”

A $10 entry fee per team is required. Each team will be able to play until eliminated. Missal also mentioned that he expects the door prizes will be of a higher quality than previous years, since 2013 is the 10th anniversary of the car show.

“ I am especially excited about the different prizes we are giving away, and I know people will be excited to see them,” Missal said.

The town complex will transform into a showcase of the cool era of hot rods and muscle cars, as classic (1900-1980), custom and sports cars are all welcome. The cars’ owners will be on hand to answer questions and talk shop.

Missal suggests that those interested in entering a car into the car show arrive early to register and claim a prime spot. Car show entries cost $20 per vehicle, with trophies handed out at the end of the car show at 3 p.m. The judges will select the winners during a drive through tour of the show.

The best 100 cars will receive trophies, plus 5 specialty trophies for achievements ranging from First Arrival, Farthest Driven, and the Barb Wilkening trophy. The Barb Wilkening trophy is given out every year in honor of the former Cedar Lake Fire Department president, who passed away in 2010.
