The Honda Accord tops the 2011 list of frequently stolen cars

While flashy sports cars are indeed frequent targets among thieves, for sheer popularity you just can't beat the old family car.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau in Des Plaines, Ill., recently released its annual list of the most frequently stolen cars in the U.S. The humble 1994 Honda Accord beats all others for thefts recorded during the 2011 calendar year.

Popular older cars tend to top this list each year because they lack the latest key-code anti-theft technology; they're often quickly dismantled at so-called chop shops, with the salvaged used parts sold by unscrupulous vendors. - Jim Gorzelany
