Wiers Chevrolet-GMC-Cadillac of DeMotte has started the process of a15,000-square-feet expansion of their business. The interior is currently under construction, and the exterior work is expected to begin the week of March 18 or 25.
"We're very excited," says Wiers Dealer Operator Jim Terborg. "We're ripping the whole front of the show room off, and there will be a big Chevy arch in front." Not only will the showroom be larger, but all sides of the building will also be expanded. The expansion project is being handled by the Hamstra Group, which, says Terborg, has done all of Wiers' expansion projects over the years.
"Our business is growing great right now, and our service is growing, and we need more room," says Terborg. With the expansion, it is anticipated there will be a few more jobs added also. "We anticipate having to hire more people, and we’re expanding the service department, technicians and sales people." Not only is business growing, but the customer base is expanding geographically to include Rensselaer and southern Jasper County, adds Terborg.
"The automobile industry is starting to turn around now," says Terborg. “And Wiers' main goal is to provide a first class operation."
Buying an automobile is one of the biggest purchases a person or family makes. Wiers wants to make that a comfortable and pleasurable experience.
"We're expanding the waiting room area for our guests and that will include a big screen TV and WiFi," Terborg explains. Tires, wheels, running boards and accessories will be nicely displayed. And a canopy on the south side will be added so when a car is ready for delivery, customers will be able to go over all the features under the canopy. In the winter, there will be space to do that inside. For customers needing to service their car, they can drive right into the shop and avoid bad weather altogether.
Terborg says that Wiers has been in DeMotte since 1956 and is one of the few dealers left selling all three General Motors brands, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC.
Wiers, with 32 employees, is expecting the expansion to be complete by this fall.
