The Northwest Indiana Federation of Interfaith Organizations will sponsor a panel that will examine recent privatizations including the recent 40-year deal for Gary/Chicago International Airport.
The forum and panel discussion will place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 1276 W. 20th Avenue, Gary. The forum is open to the public.
Speakers will also discuss the fight for the long-stalled community benefits agreement for jobs and training for disadvantaged workers on projects sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority. Also examined will be community action to stop the building of a private prison for immigrants in Hobart.
Speakers will include Don Cohen, executive director of In the Public Interest, a Washington-based resource center on privatization that educates citizens on fair and transparent public contracts with private entities.
Other panelists are Pastor Charles Strietelmeier, Hobart Concerned Citizens and Dr. Ruth Needleman, professor emerita Indiana University Northwest. Rev. John Jackson of Trinity UCC will host the event.
