The Gary Jet Center has been honored as a 2013 "Supplier of the Year" by Boeing Co., making the Gary business part of a select group of only 16 Boeing suppliers worldwide to be recognized with the award.
"These supplier-partners performed exceptionally last year — in ways that differentiated them," said Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman and chief executive officer. "They helped us provide our customers with more capability for less cost in today's dynamic environment."
Boeing's corporate jet fleet is housed at Gary/Chicago International Airport, where the Gary Jet Center operates a Boeing-only maintenance team to provide ground maintenance and onsite ground handling. The Gary Jet Center also provides similar services for the general aviation community.
"We are honored to have been recognized by The Boeing Company for our partnership with them," said Wil Davis, President and CEO of Gary Jet Center. "The fact that Boeing could go anywhere for the services we provide is a true testament to our team's commitment to quality, efficiency and service."
A diverse range of companies and others were honored at the Supplier of the Year ceremonies in Chicago on April 17. Those included the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston; the Khrunichev Space Center, Moscow; and CFM International, West Chester, Ohio.
The Gary Jet Center was honored as a Boeing Supplier of the Year in the non-production category. Boeing's international headquarters is located in Chicago.
Boeing spends more than $60 billion annually for goods and services from more than 21,000 companies around the world, according to a company statement. Those companies employ more than 1 million people.
