Six stoplights on Broadway will be removed next week in a move the Indiana Department of Transportation says will make the road safer and allow for more efficient travel.

INDOT and Gary are cooperating to remove the stoplights at 16th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th avenues, according to INDOT spokesman Matt Deitchley.

Broadway traffic will have right of way at the six intersections, with stop signs at each of the east-west avenues. Additional safety measures will be installed for east-west traffic, including “stop ahead” signs and overhead “stop” signs.
