The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission has extended the public comment period on its draft Public Participation Plan until Feb. 15.
The draft Public Participation Plan is a comprehensive update of the agency's 2007 plan and is designed to give citizens a voice in NIRPC's regional planning and decision-making process, according to the agency.
NIRPC is a regional planning agency with responsibility for transportation, economic development and environment. It's 53-member board represents communities throughout Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.
The original deadline for public comments was Nov. 30, but the deadline was extended due to increased interest from the public, according to NIRPC Executive Director John Swanson.
“It is important that this plan describe and commit to the appropriate tools for public engagement and participation in the regional planning process," Swanson said.
People wishing to view the draft public participation plan can find it at the NIRPC Web site at www.nirpc.org .
People who wish to comment can e-mail their comments to La’Kisha Girder at lgirder@nirpc.org. Or comments can be mailed to the attention of La'Kisha Girder at NIRPC, 6100 Southport Road, Portage, IN 46368.
