Portraits and Passageways

Event occured on Fri, Sep 13 2013, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm CDT

Hammond Arts Center will be holding an opening reception for the exhibit "Portraits and Passageways." Artist Jessica Smit says this about her work. "...A formal portrait can begin to tell a story, but symbolic imagery expands the narrative. I strive to use symbolic imagery to capture a moment and the emotion that lies behind it. The women in my recent creative work are standing and sitting in doorways and archways, caught in-between two places. These are moments of decision, passageways between what is and what will be. We are catching a glimpse of their unfinished stories, and we wonder how the story will end, just as we do in our own moments of decision." The event will also feature live music by singer/songwriter Krystal Kadar. Refreshments will also be served. Join us as we celebrate the arts, enjoy community, and pursue transformation.
