African American Achievers Youth Corps Inc., a nonprofit organization of middle and high school African American males, will sponsor their annual Back to School Picnic. The picnic is being held in conjunction with the annual Froebel-Roosevelt Picnic that is held on the Froebel School campus, which begins at noon and ends at 6 p.m. All citizens of the area are invited. The Achievers is a mentoring, tutorial, entrepreneurial, and counseling program for males in sixth through 12th grade. Parents interested in enrolling their sons in the program should contact state Rep. Vernon G. Smith. The group meets at 1 p.m. Saturdays at Indiana University Northwest in Hawthorn Room 219 followed by an hour of basketball from 2 to 3 p.m.
