Clinical Medical Assistant
This program from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from Sept. 30 to Jan. 16 at Munster High School, 8808 Columbia Ave., trains students to assist physicians and perform functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office: preparing patients for exams, lab procedures and diagnostic testing. You will review topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, use and administration of medications, vital signs, cardiology including lead placements, and the ethical and legal aspects of healthcare. To be eligible for the 160-hour clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to sit for the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national exam. Saturday classes will take place at Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road, on Oct. 25 and 26, Nov. 9 and 23, Dec. 7 and Jan. 11.
