Free Civil Legal Help
An Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) attorney will provide free legal help to eligible families whose civil legal problems might cause them to uproot their children from school during the academic year. Use the “North Shore” entrance located on the east side of the school building. A parking lot is located near this entrance. When approaching the door, there is notice a buzzer and a speaker. For security purposes, visitors need to ring the buzzer and identify themselves as wanting to see the ILS attorney before they are allowed into the school. ILS is a not-for-profit organization that provides free legal counsel to low-income persons, seniors (60 and older) and victims of domestic violence on civil legal issues. To be eligible for aid, a person must have a household income of $14,363 for a one-person household or an income of $29,438 for a four-person household. Clients must be U.S. citizens or documented immigrants, except in certain limited circumstances. Anyone with a civil legal problem that needs immediate attention should call ILS in Merrillville.
