Observatory Open House

Event occured on Sat, May 10 2014, 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm CDT

Join millions of observers nationwide celebrating National Astronomy Day. Members of the Calumet Astronomical Society will have telescopes set up at the observatory to take visitors on an "out of this world" tour of the night sky. View Mars throughout the evening, which will be high in the sky. See Jupiter with 4 of its many moons visible and Saturn, which will be at opposition.  (Opposition means that the Sun, the Earth, and Saturn will be directly in line with each other.)  Other celestial objects featured include the moon and its craters, the Beehive Cluster and if viewing conditions are good, a galaxy different from our own Milky Way.
