The Eating Healthy East Chicago program will be attending the Fresh County Market grand opening of their new produce section. The Eating Healthy East Chicago program is a series of cooking classes for families with children with a very limited income. This program was developed after many clients of the Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry expressed an interest in learning the basics of nutrition in order to provide healthy, well-balanced meals for their children. Purdue Cooperative Extension instructors instruct the class. Purdue Nutrition Education Program will be passing out free samples of food that have been prepared as a part of the program and registering participants for the class at 3901 Fir St., the East Chicago Location of Catholic Charities. Recipes on inexpensive healthy meals will be available. Catholic Charities’ representatives will also be passing out information about programs offered in their facility, the cooking class, computer class, legal assistance and more.
