Whiting Hosts Martial Arts Training

The Whiting Parks Department, under the guidance of Rich Lopez, will host aikido and karate training for kids and adults at the Whiting Community Center. Aikido, the art of self-defense that re-directs and neutralizes the force of an attack, willtake place from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. Start date is to be determined by interest. The class is open to those 10 years of age and older. There is a course fee of $50 for residents of the 46394 Zip Code and $55 for nonresidents. Karate training is an eight-week sessionfrom 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Start dates are ongoing. Karate classes are open to those 6 years of age and older. There is a course fee of $50 for residents of the 46394 Zip Code and $55 for nonresidents. Lopez has has moe than 42 years experience in martial arts. He has earned black belts in karate, tae kwon do, aikido. He holds the rank of third-degree black belt in aikido.
