National Public Gardens Day
National Public Gardens Day was established by the American Public Gardens Association along with corporate presenter Rain Bird. The day features special events at many of APGA’s 500 member institutions, including Fernwood. Take a tour of thepublic garden at noon, 2, or 4 p.m. Free with paid Fernwood admission. Download a voucher from Better Homes and Gardens magazine (www.bhg.com) for free admission into any participating public garden, including Fernwood, on National Public Gardens Day. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., see a slide program of Lake Cliff Garden, the private garden of Ronald and Barbara Weirich overlooking Lake Michigan in Benton Harbor. Barbara will talk about the garden that took 17 years to develop and contains over 7,000 perennials, shrubs, trees, annuals, and tropical plants. Register by May 9.
