Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Beals are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Kateland Beals, of Chicago, to Joshua David Long, of Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Long, of Griffith.
The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Beals and Mrs. Sue Hood, all of Glasgow, and the late Dr. M. Cary Hood. The groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Long, of Lansing, Mrs. Cheryl Marz-Perl, of Merrillville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Rodriguez, of Carlsbad, California.
Kateland is a 2004 graduate of Barren County High School where she was the salutatorian. She is a 2008 magna cum laude graduate from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry where she received departmental honors. Joshua graduated in 2008 from Griffith High School with honors. He is a 2012 graduate from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. Both Kateland and Joshua were teachers for the Teach for America program following college.
The bride is a program manager for IBM Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs in Chicago. The groom is the executive director of the Hammond Education Foundation in Hammond.
The wedding and reception will take place on Sept. 3 at Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan at 5 p.m. The couple has planned a honeymoon trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
