LANSING — A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested on allegations he robbed a man of money after meeting the victim under the pretense of a cellphone sale, police said.

Dominique M. Taylor, of Chicago, faces one count of armed robbery, Lansing police said.

Police were called about 1:35 p.m. Nov. 10 to the 3600 block of 173rd Court and spoke with the victim, who said he contacted Taylor through an online forum and arranged to buy a cellphone.

The victim told police the man pointed a silver automatic handgun at him as they negotiated a price for the phone. The man then took the victim's money and fled, police said.

Officers later arrested Taylor, who matched a description of the suspect in the robbery, and later identified as the suspect, police said.

Lansing and many other local police departments provide areas where residents can safely buy and sell items after arranging sales online. Lansing police said the area in front of their department is under surveillance, well lit and in a public area. Use of the area does not require interaction with police and can be used any time.
