Thursday was an exciting day for Lake Central softball coach Jeff Sherman he announced that two of his players had verbally committed to play Division I softball Senior pitcher Lily Del Toro will play at IUPUI and junior outfielder Aspyn Novak will play to Dayton.
"I'm very proud of the girls, very happy, Sherman said. "This isn't a one day thing. This is a life of hard work paying off."
Del Toro has a three- year mark of 25-7 with a 1.32 ERA and 265 strikeouts. She also has eight saves.
Del Toro said the school's program for physical therapy is just as important as the improving program.
"I went down for a visit and it happened in a blink of an eye," Del Toro said. "It didn't drag on and keep me waiting. This feels really good.
"When I was little I dreamed of playing for Alabama or Florida, the teams I saw on TV. But I love this, a D-1 school that's just a couple of hours from home."
Novak has a .394 average with 53 runs scored and 23 RBIs in two years at L.C.
She also had offers from Loyola and Northern Illinois. She verballed to Dayton on Tuesday.
"I definitely feel like a loads been lifted off my back, she said. "They've recruited me for awhile and I knew I wanted to go there. There was so much pressure but now it's gone. I can be totally focused on my own game now."
With Lizzie Seymour already committed to George Mason the Indians now have three Division I players on their roster.
