CHESTERTON | A second-half scoring barrage lifted Chesterton past Andrean Thursday night.
The Times No. 1 Trojans scored three goals in a 4:54 span midway through the second half to bring Chesterton back from a halftime deficit and beat the 59ers 3-1.
Katie Green netted the game-winning goal in the 58th minute on a corner kick that snuck in between Andrean keeper Maddie Mandich and the near post.
Green added an insurance goal on a 30-yard free kick in the 59th minute.
Claudia Krygier’s 20-yard shot tied the game at 1-1 in the 55th minute. Her shot went into the upper far corner of the net, just sneaking in between the crossbar and Mandich’s fingertips.
Chesterton controlled the possession for the majority of the game. The Trojans (11-1-2) finished with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Mandich finished with eight saves for Andrean (7-6).
Andrean’s Tessa Wojkovich netted the lone goal of the first half on a strange play in the 24th minute.
Wojkovich was chasing an attempted through-ball toward the 18-yard box when Chesterton keeper Anne Marie Radzik came out of the box to kick the ball away. Her attempted clear bounced off Wojkovich and into the empty net to give the 59ers the lead.
Chesterton had a 10-1 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half, but the Trojans could not get one past Mandich.
Mandich’s best save of the half came when she stopped Bridget Brendza from 8 yards out in the 17th minute.
