HAMMOND | De'Shon Roberson must have really missed Hammond QB Eric Schreiber while he was gone.
All the senior RB did was score three total TDs within a span of 5:29 between the first and second quarters in Hammond's 58-6 Great Lakes Athletic Conference win over Gavit on Friday night.
The first came on a 14-yard pass from the aforementioned Schreiber, who was returning from a concussion that sidelined the signal-caller for four weeks for Hammond (2-6, 1-1 GLAC).
Roberson then did things in a more exciting manner with not one, but two punt returns for touchdowns from 40 and 62 yards out, respectively.
Schreiber showed no signs of rust by throwing four touchdown passes in the first half alone.
Two of them were within a minute of each other in the waning seconds of the second quarter after senior Tashon Rogers took one in from one yard out for Gavit (2-6, 0-2).
The third quarter, which lasted a little over an hour, saw nine total penalties and a 45-yard punt return from sophomore halfback Tim Echoles, who also caught Schreiber's first touchdown pass of the night on a 12-yarder.
The Wildcat defense recovered four Gavit fumbles and added a safety.
Gavit could only muster 61 yards of total offense, including 37 rushing yards from Tashon Rogers.
