MERRILLVILLE | It's not often that a team can plate four runs in one inning while barely needing to swing the bat.

However, that's exactly what Times No. 1 Andrean did in the first inning of Thursday's Northwest Crossroads Conference battle against No. 4 Hobart, drawing four early walks in an eventual 6-4 win over the Brickies.

In that inning, Alejandro Kinney laced a two-run double for the 59ers' only hit of the frame, capping the damage to give them an early 4-0 lead.

Hobart pitcher Brandon Murray had trouble locating his pitches, issuing seven walks in his six innings of work. Though Murray has potential, Hobart coach Bob Glover Jr. has recognized this as an occasional issue.

"At times, it's not a regular thing," he said of Murray's control.

"You see this with young kids. If you can get them in the first inning, you're in pretty good shape. Today, they got him in the first inning."

The 59ers (12-2, 6-0 NCC) tacked on an insurance run in the second inning to go up 5-0, putting the Brickies in what seemed to be a deep hole.

However, Hobart (14-4, 2-3) started the uphill climb with a four-run fourth inning, collecting four hits in the process. However, Drey Devereaux was thrown out going back to second base after his two run double for the second out of the inning, and Anthony Burgos grounded out to end the inning. That frame left Andrean coach Dave Pishkur impressed with Hobart's ability to fight back.

"They were down 5-0 on the road," he said. "To make a comeback like that, I was impressed with their hitters. Those balls were hit hard."

After Pishkur switched Tarala out for Mark Pishkur, Hobart failed to generate a big rally.

Glover is taking no moral victories with this loss, knowing his team is past the point where it questions its ability to compete with the area's best.

"I didn't need to come here and come within two runs just to feel better about it," he said. "That's just the way I feel about it."
