ST. JOHN | Munster is proving that it can win in multiple ways early on this spring.

After Tuesday's drubbing of Times No. 4 Andrean, the No. 6 Mustangs defeated No. 1 Lake Central 5-4 a day later.

Munster (4-1) capitalized on two L.C. errors in the seventh inning. Taylor Michalski reached base on on a Lily Del Toro error and advanced to third after Emma Hodges' single. L.C. shortstop Ashley Nylen was unable to field Paige Kwasigroch's sharp grounder, and Michalski scored the game-winner.

"We knew we would have to stay up and fight until the end," said Michalski, who collided with teammate Briana Zunica but still made a diving catch in the seventh. "If we keep fighting until the end, we're a hard team to beat."

Lake Central (3-2) struck early after sophomore Aspyn Novak tripled to lead off the game and senior Kayla Bishton followed with an RBI groundout.

However, the Indians squandered an opportunity in the third after loading the bases.

Munster finally broke through in the fifth. Madelynn Moore drew a leadoff walk and scored on Briana Zunica's RBI single.

Taylor Kotzo followed with a single, but she was thrown out after making too wide of a turn at first.

The Indians answered back in the bottom of the frame. Melanie Pabon led off with her second double of the season, and she later scored on a Novak RBI single.

Kotzo made up for her running mishap by ripping an RBI single that scored Michalski as a part of a three-run sixth. Hodges and Tegan Murphy added RBI singles.

"My level of frustration is high right now because of the mental mistakes, but we kept coming back even after we panicked," Munster coach Beth Thornburg said. "Taylor knows when we need a big play."

L.C. wouldn't go away and answered back with two more in the sixth after Nylen, who was running for Del Toro after she doubled, scored on a passed ball and Paige Carter scored on another Novak RBI single.

"First of all, I thought it was a great game. Both teams did a great job of coming back," L.C. coach Jeff Sherman said. "We felt like we missed some opportunities and they came through with theirs. We have a couple young kids who will do nothing but learn from this."
