HEBRON | Hebron's season-long dominance on the boys volleyball court continued Friday when the Hawks opened the Porter County Conference tournament.

With a 25-15, 25-12, 25-21 sweep over Kouts, Hebron was one of three teams advancing to the second round of the PCC postseason. Joined by Morgan Twp., the 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 winners over Washington Twp., Hanover Central held off a Boone Grove rally to win 25-13, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 15-10 in the Friday finale.

Hanover Central and Morgan will play today at 5:30 p.m. and Hebron will meet LaCrosse in the 4 p.m. game. The winners will meet in the 7:30 championship game.

Cody Arusto's eight kills led the Hawks on Friday, and Jay Patz added three more kills.

The Mustangs were led by Andrew Birky who had two kills and was a perfect 8-8 in serving. Steve Keller also had two kills, going 16-of-19 attacking.

Close at the end, Morgan Twp. (13-2) held off Washington Twp.'s close play winning by two points in the last two sets.

"We fought through it and found ways to come back," Cherokee coach Matt Bien said. "The guys persevered."

Brandon Murphy led the Cherokees with four kills and two aces.

"I just wanted to get the ball in play," he said. "I kept telling the team to relax and to play volleyball like we know how to play volleyball.

"They're going to have to play a lot better (today), there's more competition in the next round," Bein said.
