Where: Covert, Michigan
Offering primitive and RV sites as well as cabins, the Covert/South Haven KOA is another option if you are wanting to camp near Lake Michigan, but are looking for more activities. The 60-acre campground is close to the resort towns of South Haven (pictured), St. Joseph, Saugatuck and Holland.
“We have been going there for the last several years. The owners, Tom and Libby De Rosa, are fantastic hosts. Each year we look for improvements to the campground and they never disappoint,” said Melissa Krenkel, of Schererville. “We’ve seen them add games, equipment for kids to play on, special themed weekends and special items added to their lodge menu, including waffles with homemade blueberry preserves.”
Blueberries are plentiful on the grounds and Krenkel said one of her favorite parts of the visit is picking blueberries.
The campground features a heated pool, arcade room, snack shop, horseshoe pit, dog park, fishing ponds, volleyball, basketball, jumping pillow and more. Activities include Saturday night hayrides, kids’ crafts, bingo and movie nights.
You’ll be close to shopping, golfing, beaches and wineries.
“If wineries are your thing, you are in the heart of Michigan’s wine country," Krenkel said.
