Zolo Agona Azania has avoided three death sentences, and on Feb. 8 he is scheduled to be freed. He says he is entering a changed world as a changed man. To the family and friends of the fallen police officer, he remains Rufus Averhart, the name Gary police knew him as when they were chasing him with guns blazing Aug. 11, 1981, after a police veteran died in the line of duty outside the Gary National Bank branch near 37th and Broadway.
