An ice carving team works on a sculpture during St. Joseph’s Magical Ice Fest. Competitions are free style allowing carvers to complete whatever design or sculpture they want.

Most ice carvers acquire the art in college through a culinary program. Some vocational high schools have also started to teach ice carving.
