"Scrooge" is presented at Merrillville High School

There's nothing like hearing the story of Ebenezer Scrooge to officially begin your holiday season.

M & M Productions and Ross Music Theatre presents “Scrooge,” its annual holiday show in Merrillville.

The classic musical about the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge will be performed Dec. 2, 3 and 4 at Reinhart Auditorium at Merrillville High School. M & M Productions has been presenting “Scrooge” for the past two decades.

"It started back in the early '80s," said Melinda Reinhart, choral director at Merrillville High School.

In honor of the show’s longevity in the area, the theater group will have an Alumni Night at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3. Anybody who has performed in “Scrooge” dating back to 1982 is invited to attend on that special night. (Alumni will receive a discounted price to see the show.)

One alumnus will be picked before the show to perform in a chorus number.

All alumni will be invited to join in the song “Thank You Very Much.”

"This is a community theater project," Reinhart said, adding that the high school kids are involved as well as members from the community.

"And it's a family-oriented production. There are often multi-generations of people in the show," she said. Many performers also get their families involved every year. There are close to 100 people involved in presenting "Scrooge" annually.

FYI: “Scrooge” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 4. Tickets range from $8 to $14. Visit
