If you haven't been selected for one of the many presidential polls this year, a local brewery is giving you a chance to tap the candidate you support.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company on the Northern California coast is selling an ale labeled "Obama" and another marked "McCain" in a mock election that encourages customers to "vote early" and "vote often." The self-styled "alection" tracks sales of pints at the brewery and bottles to distributors. The results are updated online each week, said Wayne Meyer, director of sales and marketing for the company.

"One (ale) is light in content, and the other is aged a long time," Meyer joked.

The ales are in fact the same -- one of the beers the company normally produces -- only labeled differently.

Meyer said the idea came up as a way to have fun with the election process.

At the brewery, a Sen. Barack Obama figure and a Sen. John McCain figure adorn separate tap handles.

So far the "Obama Ale" has outsold "McCain Ale" nearly four-to-one -- 5,084 Obama bottles versus 1,336 McCain ones -- not surprising given the beer is only distributed in California, where real polls show the Democrat from Illinois with a commanding lead.

Meyer said for McCain, whose wife Cindy is heiress to a family owned Anheuser-Busch distributor, the results are "kind of sad." But the Arizona Republican still has time to make up ground. In fact, he may have more time than in the real election.

Meyer said he has not decided whether the "alection" will end on Nov. 4.

"Customers are enjoying the contest," he said. "Most people take it fairly lightly with a nice buzz."
