DODGE THE BALL | Lowell

Lowell High School will hold its fourth annual Dodge Ball Tournament today at the school, 2051 E. Commercial Ave. Gates open at 5 p.m. and action begins at 6 p.m. Last year, 28 teams competed in three hours worth of refereed dodge ball action in front of 700 spectators. This year 30 teams, including students and at least 25 teachers, look to take home the hardware.

AUXILIARY DINNER | Highland

St. Patrick's Day Dinner American Legion Auxiliary Unit 180 will host a St. Patrick's Day dinner at 1 p.m. Sunday at the post hall, Ridge Road and Second Street. Corned beef dinner with cabbage, potatoes and carrots will be sold for $8. Coffee or a soft drink is included. Carryouts will be available.

KNITTING | Chesterton

Area knitters are invited to gather for an afternoon of knitting, conversation and refreshments from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Brown Mansion parlor at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Ave. The free program also includes a last chance to see the exhibit, A Day in the Life of Westchester Township. The public is invited. Information on the history of knitting will be available, as well as copies of museum researcher Eva Hopkins' original pattern for a unique but simple earmuff scarf.

Thornton Fractional South High School Band is hosting a jazz festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the school, 18500 Burnham Ave. Admission is $4 per person. Concessions will be available.

OPEN HOUSE | DeMotte

DeMotte Public Library's Preschool Open House is from 10 a.m. to noon today at 901 Birch St. SW, where teachers from area schools will provide information on curriculum, cost and hours of operation for each organization, and be available to answer questions from parents. Informational handouts will be available, while registration may be done at a later date. Participating preschools include DeMotte United Methodist Preschool, DeMotte Faith Lutheran Preschool, DeMotte Christian Preschool, DeMotte Community Preschool, Kougar Pride and K-IRPC Head Start.
