The "rags to riches" story of work-worn girl turned royalty is an ages-old favorite of generations.

"Cinderella" is the storybook lesson that with hard work and hope, dreams come true.

It's one of the reasons Theatre at the Center in Munster selected the story for their Theatre for Young Audiences season.

"What gives this version new life are the fun spins the cast and theater company provides for this stage telling," said Charlie Misovye, group sales coordinator at Theatre at the Center.

Running Oct. 11 to 13, this adaptation is based on the classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm.

The traditional story points remain the same.

Endlessly mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, poor Cinderella is denied a chance to go to the Royal Ball. With a little help from her mice friends, and the magical touch of her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball, meets her Prince, and lives happily ever after.

Chicago Kids Company, the theater group who previously staged both "Rapunzel" and "Little Red Riding Hood," provides the creative talent and staging for this month's production.

"Groups in attendance will have the chance to join the fun by entering the Cinderella coloring contest, and the winner will receive a 'Crystal Carriage' and tickets to our next children's show, ' 'Twas the Night Before Christmas,'" Misovye said.

"We also always provide study guides so the young audiences can discuss what they've seen shared on stage."

"Cinderella" is presented on the main stage of Theatre at the Center in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, in Munster.

For the holiday season offering, " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas" will be presented as a musical Nov. 30 and running through Dec. 15. Audience members will get their chance to shine in a sing-along to popular holiday melodies and join in the fun as Santa and his friends make a surprise visit. Groups in attendance will have the chance to display their festive spirit by entering the " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas" Create Your Own Christmas Card Contest. Prizes include a chance to win up to 50 Personal Pan Pizza coupons at Pizza Hut, 815 Ridge Road, Munster, or up to 100 coupons for free ice cream cones and 25 percent off a purchase of $25 or more at The Sweet Tooth, 942 Ridge Road, Munster.
