KeriAnne Valuckis, director of Crown Point Community Theatre’s “Beautiful Bodies,” says male theatergoers may learn a thing or two from the all-female tale.

“I think that it gives men insight as to how women are when they’re alone with other women,” she said. “There’s no filter. They’ll just say anything. I think it’s going to be funny for everybody, and not just for women.”

Opening today and running through Feb. 17, “Bodies” tells the tale of five 30-something females, all friends since college, who come together for a baby shower for another friend, Claire, where much is said and revealed.

“Bodies” was penned by Big Apple-bred author and playwright Laura Shaine Cunningham and was adapted for the stage from her 2002 tome. The play has been staged throughout the globe.

“(The script) doesn’t pull any punches,” Valuckis said. “Women are catty by nature, I think, especially when you put them with other women. And I think this is a great example of how we can still be great friends and be catty at the same time. And each of the characters has their own idiosyncrasies that make this group work as a whole.”

Jen Williams from Crown Point plays Claire in Crown Point Community Theatre’s production of “Bodies.” Playing Claire’s peers are Mandy Dietrich from Hobart as Nina, Lansing’s Caitlyn Desjardins as Lisbeth, Jena Bellezza and Kerry Fitch, both From Crown Point, as Jessie and Sue Carol, respectively, and Rebecca Fortner from North Judson as Martha.

“They’re doing great,” Valuckis said of her cast. “They’ve all got great comic timing, and they’re bonding. It’s going to be a really fun show.”

Due to adult themes and language, “Bodies” is not recommended for young or sensitive audiences.

Crown Point Community Theatre’s next production, the family-geared “All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten,” is scheduled to open April 12.
