Actor/comedian Chris Tucker is currently bringing his stand-up act to audiences around the country.
This weekend, Tucker, well known for his starring role in the "Rush Hour" film series, will perform in the Region. Tucker will unleash his humor on stage Friday and Saturday at The Venue at Hammond's Horseshoe Casino.
"I have a lot of surprises for fans and I talk about a lot of real life stuff," said Tucker, during a recent telephone interview.
The comedian, who was in trouble with the IRS for back tax debt a few years ago, said his stand-up act is always different and he's prone to spontaneity on stage.
"I never know what I'm going to say. It always changes," he said, with a laugh. "It's always in the moment."
A career in comedy and acting was long of interest to Tucker.
"I've always wanted to do that. I grew up watching Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy," he said, adding he admired their style of comedy and their ability to be creative both on screen and on the live stage.
Tucker developed a huge fan base through the years with various roles and shows including his performance as Smokey in the movie "Friday," as Detective James Carter in the "Rush Hour" film series and as a popular performer on "Def Comedy Jam." The comedian, who was born in Georgia, also had a role in the 2012 hit film "Silver Lining Playbook."
About his experience with the "Rush Hour" series, Tucker said, "Working with Jackie Chan was just great. Our chemistry is great on and off screen."
Tucker said the "Rush Hour" series of films are "buddy movies" in the vein of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor's pairing in "Silver Streak," "Stir Crazy," and "See No Evil, Hear No Evil," and the pairing of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the "Lethal Weapon" films.
