Royal Winnipeg Ballet landed its extravagant "Moulin-Rouge - The Ballet" last weekend at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre.

The production, choreographed by Jorden Morris, proved stunning with lavish costumes, standout sets and a blend of dynamic and graceful choreography.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet didn't falter in any way as it brought the romantic yet tragic storyline to life with dance. Throughout the piece, the troupe told the tale of Nathalie and Matthew as they find love, and deal with loss and heartbreak at the famed Parisian cabaret Moulin Rouge. In this production, cabaret owner Zeidler and famed artist Toulouse-Lautrec also figure into the storyline.

Among outstanding segments of the show was the lovely pas de deux performed poignantly by Matthew and Nathalie as the lights of the Eiffel Tower twinkled behind them. Also fascinating was seeing the corps de ballet do the "Can-Can" on pointe.

A diverse musical score helped make the production soar. The troupe danced to everything from Debussy's "Claire de Lune" and Guglielmi's "La Vie En Rose" to Offenbach's "Can-Can."
