Jazz band to perform

The Bloomington Advanced Jazz Ensemble, led by Hammond native Janis Stockhouse, will perform Friday at Morton High School, 6915 Grand Ave., Hammond. The ensemble will perform for music students of the Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts. For more information, call (219) 989-7316.

Common in Hammond on Saturday

Hip-hop artist Common will perform Saturday at the Hammond Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. The concert is a 21 and older show. Opening acts include F. 'Motown the Musical' casting call

There will be an open casting call for African-American singers from noon to 1 p.m. today for the upcoming national tour of "Motown the Musical," which hits Chicago April 22 to July 13. The casting call will be held at Ballet Chicago, 17 N. State St., Chicago. Men and women with exceptional voices are sought. Producers are also seeking an African-American boy, age 8 to 13, to play young Michael Jackson/Berry Gordy/Steve Wonder. No prior theater experience is necessary.
