Arts performances featured
The Miller Beach Arts and Creative District will feature student artwork from the Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts High Ability Academy throughout May. As part of this collaboration, there also will be choral, instrumental and dance performances presented. On Saturday, four high school groups will be stars at the district’s art gallery at 540 Lake St. The four high school groups include the highly acclaimed Concert Choir, directed by Marion Lynn Boynes, a Dance Ensemble directed by Larry Brewer, a woodwind quintet from the band department, directed by Lea Larson, and a string quartet from the Orchestra Department directed by Rovelli Grib.
On May 17, two younger groups will perform at the district’s art gallery. These featured groups are the Junior High Choir, directed by Kamille Brinker, and a dance troupe presenting a tribute to Michal Davis, a recently retired and longtime dance instructor at Wirt-Emerson. As part of the evening, the documentary film "What We Sow" about Wirt-Emerson will be shown. It was produced by Carolyn McCrady. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. both evenings, and admission is free.
