Majestic Star Casinos in Gary have always been very proactive in bringing big money poker tournament action for everyday players to the Chicago area.

The property’s most recent venture was partnering with the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) earlier this month for an event that attracted 301 poker enthusiasts from around the Midwest.

When the dust of battle settled at the final table of the Main Event, the winner was Kenneth Baime from Glenview, Illinois. He took home a $77,681 first prize, reason enough for him to make plans for MSPT’s next stop at Majestic Star August 16 – 24.

The runner-up in the tournament was Leon Morford of Rockford, Illinois. His second place prize money amounted to $42,504.

This marks the fifth season for MSPT, which was founded by Bryan Mileski, the Minnesota Poker Player Alliance State Director and president and publisher of Minnesota Poker Magazine.

Each stop on the tour is a deep stack Texas Hold’em tournament. The lure of course is affordable buy-ins and blinds, something which allows players with a passion for poker to experience the thrill of big money excitement without having to put up big money.

The victorious Baime utilized skillful play to secure his victory. He stayed out of the biggest pots for the majority of Day 2 of the tournament. It was not until he was one of seven players remaining at the Final Table that his relentless drive for first place began.

He became the chip leader with jacks against Brian Zimcosky, a young man with a reputation for being the most aggressive player at the Final Table.

The death knell sounded for Zimcosky when Baime induced from him an all-in check-raise with a board showing a 5 and Jack of spades, 7 of diamonds, and 4 of hearts. Baime held a 4 and 5 of clubs for two pair, while his opponent held a king and 10 of spades. The result was a big chip lead going into a heads-up match with Morford which Baime dominated.

In the event you can’t wait for the return of MSPT to Majestic Star in August, you could head up to Baraboo, Wisconsin, just outside of the Wisconsin Dells, this weekend. The $200,000 Main Event will be held starting tomorrow and continue throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, if you crave the action at Majestic Star, don’t miss the March Mayhem Deep Stack Poker Challenge which began yesterday and will continue through Sunday.
