Herb Reed, the last founding member of the musical group The Platters, died in June 2012 at 83.

Reed was the only group member to appear on every original Platters recording.

But the group's music and memories continue to live on with The World Famous Platters Revue, which tours the country sharing music of generations with new audiences of all ages.

The touring group will perform the greatest hits of The Platters, who had 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1950s and 1960s, at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. for two afternoon concerts at 1:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

The Platters are known for timeless classics including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," "My Prayer," "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," "Harbor Lights," "Ebb Tide," "Red Sails In The Sunset," "If I Didn't Care" and "The Magic Touch."

Since the group formed in 1953, they have recorded approximately 400 songs, sold over 89 million records, received 230 awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Platters quickly became a favorite of rock-n-roll, pop, rhythm and blues, and country listeners around the world. The World Famous Platters Revue continues this tradition, performing their smash hits from the 1950's and 1960's as a staple in Branson for over 15 years.

Tickets are $50 for each performance. Lunch/theatre packages are available for $65 and discounts are available for subscribers. FYI: (630) 530-0111 or drurylaneoakbrook.com.

Casting call

"Prancer" filmmaker and Oscar-nominated director and local claim-to-fame John Hancock is busy casting his latest feature film in LaPorte this weekend.

I'm told this currently unnamed production will be set primarily in La Porte County.

Hancock and his FilmAcres Studio are holding auditions through Sunday at the La Porte County Library, 904 Indiana Ave, in La Porte. FYI: (219) 362-6156

It's New York Casting Director Susan Willett who's conducting the auditions, including the callbacks, which will happen Sunday.

Today's auditions are from 4 to 9 p.m., and then 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with callbacks from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m Sunday.

The press alert says the movie is about a grandmother experiencing the earliest stage of dementia, while carring for her granddaughter after the girl's mother dies.

The screenplay is by Hancock's wife Dorothy Tristan, who will also star as the grandmother.

The cast search includes a need for children who can sing and dance.

Vist FilmAcres on Facebook or the production website at filmacres.com for details.

Anyone interested in auditions should come to the library's downstairs large meeting room, and bring a recent photo (not more than six months old) and no larger than 4-inches by 6-inches. The actual auditions will be in the neighboring rooms.
