One of my favorite silly and over-the-top entertaining murder mystery comedy films while growing up was "Clue: The Movie," the 1985 Paramount Pictures flick based on the Parker Brothers board game Clue.

Set in a Gothic mansion, it had an all-star cast of favorites including Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean and the late, great Madeline Kahn, all invited to an elegant dinner party where a murder ends up on the menu.

So when Ryan McFarland of St. John, a 2006 graduate of Lake Central High School, contacted me with the great news he's bringing his own brand of supper club murder mystery as a full-course dinner show at Teibel's, I promised to spread the word.

"Murder at the Conga Club" is the name of the show, which McFarland previously staged with much success while living in Long Beach, Calif., before his recent return to the Region.

He tells me this interactive murder mystery dinner theater experience was a "smash hit" when it was performed at Sevilla Nightclub in Long Beach, Calif.

McFarland rewrote portions of the show to customize it especially for its setting at Teibel's Restaurant, 1775 U.S. 41 , in Schererville.

Each performance can only host 80 dining guests, so some dates are already sold out, such as April 5 and 12. But seats still remain for April 19 and 26, as well as May 3, 17 and 24 and 26, plus a new night just added for June 2. All performances begin at 6:30 p.m. with a brief overview to explain the audience participation portions.

The tickets are $49 for general admission, which includes a plated meal featuring soup, salad, rolls, fried chicken and mostaccioli and baked potato, along with a choice of dessert). There's also an option of a premium ticket for $59 for soup, salad, rolls, and a combo of fried chicken and lake perch with baked potato and choice of dessert. Both ticket prices include all taxes and 18 percent gratuity and non-alcoholic beverages. Since I've not seen this dinner show, McFarland, who is the show's producer, shared a tease with some details.

"It is an interactive dinner theater for a recreation of the murder done by audience members, with a total of 18 parts for members in the audience, ensuring that all table parties have at least one or two participants," said McFarland, who mentioned he recently had to fire his cowboy, so he'll be stepping into those boots to perform at next month's string of shows.

"The floor is opened up for the entire audience to ask the suspects questions about the night of the murder. There is also a 45-minute intermission for the main course to be served, during which a dead night club singer comes back to life to sing her old set of 1930s and 1940s songs for the audience to enjoy while they eat."
